Prioritizing the health and safety of all students and staff must remain the focus of Harrisburg High School. This plan will be modified as needed and guided by IHSA standards and guidelines. Start Date for Contact Days: Monday, July 6th Coaches need to set up contact, conditioning, and weight room days and times with athletes in your sport using social media, Remind, etc. Students that participate in multiple sports for the year are encouraged to be grouped, for summer participation, in their fall sport. This eliminates the "dead week" during the first week of August. * The IHSA Board of Directors discussed but did NOT waive the requirements of IHSA By-law 2.150 requiring students to have a physical examination not more than 395 days preceding any date of practice, contest or activity. Please remind your athletes to schedule a physical examination as soon as possible. PRE-WORKOUT • Schools must maintain a daily record of what athletes are participating, when, symptoms they may present. These forms should be returned to the Athletic Office. * Athletes and coaches should be screened at the start of practice for temperature >100.4F/38C or symptoms of COVID-19 (fevers, chills, cough, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell). Please see me for thermometers and COVID forms. * Any person with symptoms or a positive COVID-19 test should NOT participate in practice, competition, or conditioning and should be referred to a physician for evaluation and only return after clearance to do so from a physician. Athletes will need to provide doctors documentation if they are showing signs of one of the before mentioned symptoms for an unrelated health issue (Other than COVID) to be able to participate. * Signage about symptoms and transmission of COVID-19 should be posted around facilities. District will be putting up signs at facilities. • Multiple groups of 50 or less permitted outside only with 30 feet of distance required between groups. • Multiple groups of 50 not permitted indoors by defined spaces (50 in gym, 50 in the fieldhouse, 50 in a band room, etc.) * When students are not actively participating in a drill, practice, or contest, they must maintain social distance between individuals. • If locker rooms are a necessity, capacity should be limited to ensure members can maintain 6ft of social distance. • Individuals should sanitize or wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with warm water and soap before touching any surfaces or participating in workouts. • Appropriate clothing/shoes should be worn at all times in the weight room to minimize sweat from transmitting onto equipment/surfaces. • Students must be encouraged to shower and wash their workout clothing immediately upon returning to home. FACILITIES CLEANING • Adequate cleaning schedules, before and after each use by a group of athletes, should be created and implemented for all athletic facilities to mitigate any communicable diseases. Cleaning supplies and gloves will be supplied. • Prior to an individual or groups of individuals entering a facility, hard surfaces within that facility should be wiped down and sanitized (chairs, furniture in meeting rooms, locker rooms, weight room equipment, bathrooms, athletic training room tables, etc.). • Hand sanitizer should be plentiful and available to individuals as they transfer from place to place. • Weight equipment should be wiped down thoroughly before and after an individual’s use of equipment. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND ATHLETIC EQUIPMENT • On July 6tht, summer contact days may begin for Harrisburg Unit # 3. Coaches are encouraged to use a staged approach to build back up to full summer contact activity and competitions. Local districts should work with their health departments and local school officials to make decisions about team travel to summer competitions. * Athletes, who did not participate in Stage 1, are encouraged to follow the fall acclimatization schedule for any sport. * Football players should maintain their summer acclimatization schedule, per IHSA By-Law 3.157. • There should be no shared athletic towels, clothing, or shoes between students. • Hand sanitizer or hand washing stations should be plentiful at summer contact events. • Other equipment, such as bats, batting helmets, catchers gear, hockey helmets/pads, wrestling ear guards, football helmets/other pads, and lacrosse helmets/pads/gloves/eyewear should be worn by only one individual and not shared. • Shared equipment such as athletic balls, thud pads, sleds should be cleaned frequently during practice and competitions. • Below is the link from Wilson regarding ball sanitization guidance. • Wilson Sporting Goods Guida#A18 • In Phase 4 spotters for weightlifting are allowed. Maximum lifts should be done only with power cages for squats and bench presses. Spotters should stand at each end of the bar and MUST wear a mask. HYDRATION • All students shall bring their own water bottle. Water bottles must NOT be shared. • Hydration stations (water cows, water trough, water fountains, etc.) may be utilized to fill individual water bottles ONLY but must be cleaned after every practice/contest. CONTESTS • Group sizes should be limited to 50 total participants, coaches, and referees (i.e. excludes spectators). * Any additional team members can sit on the sidelines 6 feet apart from one another. • During the use of summer contact days, multiple groups of 50 or fewer participants are permitted in a facility at once as long as: facilities allow for social distancing of students, coaches, and spectators or 30-ft of distancing is maintained between groups/ opposing teams on the sidelines, and/or areas for each group are clearly marked to discourage interaction between groups outside competitive game play. • Schools must have information posted at entrances and around facilities explaining the transmission as well as symptoms of COVID-19, encouraging all visitors to maintain social distance, and reminding people to stay home if they feel sick or have any of the symptoms of COVID-19: temperature >100.4 F/38 C, fevers, chills, cough, muscle aches, headache, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of taste or smell. • If schools choose to permit spectators, there should be a designated area for spectators with existing seating capped at 20 percent of capacity. This will be determined at a later date. • Visual markers shall be displayed at queue points (Check-ins, along sidelines, concessions, bleachers, etc.) to help people maintain social distance. • Concession stands may open in line with restaurant businesses physical workspace guidelines. • Encourage spectators to bring their own chairs from home for outdoor activities. • No handshakes, high fives, fist bumps, hugs, etc. can occur pre- or post-match. • No spitting or blowing of the nose without the use of a tissue is allowed. PPE • Students should be masked unless actively engaged in activity. • Coaches should be masked. • Officials should be masked unless ACTIVELY exercising as part of their officiating duties. • Officials must use electronic whistles. It is the responsibility of each IHSA member school to comply with these requirements. If available, it is encouraged that an athletic trainer or medical personnel be available for workouts. They should be masked for any interactions with athletes and maintain appropriate social distance when feasible. GUIDELINES MUST BE FOLLOWED. It is the sole responsibility of the coaches to adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements stated in this plan. There will be no deviation of these guidelines.

Great news Bulldog Nation, the governor has allowed us to resume behind the wheel portion of Drivers Education. The process will go as follows.. We have 84 students to be completed. It will not be possible to get all of these students drivers completed this summer but we will try to complete as many as possible before school resumes. These students will be driven oldest to youngest ,by date of birth, that hold a current white slip and is available to drive at the time slots presented to your students. We understand it is a hectic time, we have three (3) instructions driving this summer to increase flexibility but students we need you to help us and be flexible as well. Mr. Dwyer will be in touch with you oldest to youngest. If you do not receive a call this week you can contact me to see where you are at on the list of 84. If your child is not driven this summer they will again be driven oldest to youngest, by date of birth, once school starts in August. This will also depend upon the availability in your students schedule. Most importantly student is required to have a mask with when they show up to drive. We will follow the state guidelines regarding cleaning the car. Each time your student shows up to drive they will be required to answer the standard Covid -19 questions regarding any possible symptoms. It is crucial that you show up for your designated time slot to drive. We are required to have two kids in the car each session and if one does not show up we sacrifice an hour of driving. WARNING If you miss your scheduled time slot more than once you will be moved to the end of the list of 84 to be driven. Thank you for your patience with this process. This is all new to us as well as you. We are trying our very best to work out details. Just to reiterate I do not have Facebook so please do not comment on this post. Please feel free to contact my cell phone number if you have questions. Sincerely, Richard Dwyer Drivers Education Chair

5-4-2020 Greetings Bulldog Nation, I hope this update still finds you safe and well at this troubling time America and still practicing social distancing. This is just an update from the letter dated 4-2-2020 that can be found on the school website and Facebook Page. The tentative date for the Governor to allow the Illinois Secretary of State offices and Drivers Services facilities to re-open now is at the earliest date of June 2,2020. This means that your student will not be able to obtain a Illinois Driver’s License or a White slip until this date at the earliest. In regards to completing the 6 hour behind the wheel portion of Drivers Education that many students still need to complete the Governor’s office and the Illinois State Board of Education has not released a tentative date to resume this portion of the Driver’s Education Class. As soon as a date is released I can assure you that the behind the wheel portion will resume in the following order oldest child to youngest child by birth date. You can be assured I will update you if there are any changes. Sincerely, Richard Dwyer HHS Drivers Education Chair

Information regarding spring sports and summer contact days from the the IHSA: The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Board of Directors met for their April meeting via a video conference call on Tuesday, April 21, where the Board of Directors announced its decision to cancel all IHSA spring state tournaments. The decision to cancel the spring state tournaments comes in conjunction with Friday’s (April 17) announcement by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education that all Illinois high schools will complete the 2019-20 school term from home via e-learning. “We support the decision by Governor Pritzker and the Illinois State Board of Education, and given the logistics, we simply felt we could not conduct state tournaments that meet the expectations of our member schools this spring, ” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “As disappointing as it may be for students, it is the right decision for their health and safety, as well as for the health and safety of the general public, as we cope with this unprecedented pandemic.” The IHSA offers state tournaments in the following sports and activities in the spring: Girls Badminton, Boys Gymnastics, Bass Fishing, Boys & Girls Track & Field, Boys & Girls Water Polo, Girls Soccer, Boys Tennis, Boys & Girls Lacrosse, Boys Volleyball, Baseball, and Softball. The Board also determined that summer contact days are suspended for this year, unless state government and medical leaders indicate such gatherings are safe. At that time, the Board indicated a willingness to reconsider how summer contact might be conducted and whether opportunities for schools to conduct some kind of spring athletic events might occur. “Once it is determined safe to return, we will provide a detailed outline to our schools on the plan for summer contact days and possibly some kind of spring athletic events,” said Anderson. “Including if the number of days and dates that coaches can meet with athletes has been altered. At this point, though, all that is dependent upon state government and medical leaders giving the go ahead for such.” “Our thoughts right now are with all the impacted students, coaches and communities. Especially the seniors,” said Anderson. “It will be difficult for them to find a silver lining in all of this, but we stress that even if they don’t get the chance to compete again at the high school level, they are better for having been a part of their respective high school teams. By participating in high school sports and activities, they were exposed to life lessons in teamwork, leadership, and overcoming adversity that are difficult to replicate elsewhere. The latter is applicable now more than ever. We hope that we can band together and refocus all our efforts on supporting the doctors, nurses, first responders, and all the other essential personnel who are putting their health and safety on the line each day to keep us safe.” The IHSA will continue to communicate with and monitor briefings from state officials, and based on those timelines, provide updates to its member schools as it relates to potential spring participation and summer contact days. “The possibility of playing a spring sport game this summer is about closure,” said Anderson. “If we are able to offer this opportunity, no student-athlete would be restricted by having already practiced or competed with a non-school team.”

Harrisburg, During these days when NOTHING seems normal anymore.....I wanted to show you something that has always been constant in the HARRISBURG community! HARRISBURG UNIT # 3 LOVES AND CARES FOR ALL OF OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES. I am unsure what many of you will see when you look at this video.....Let me tell you what I see.....I see COMPASSION, EMPATHY, VOLUNTEERISM, KINDNESS, TENDER, CONCERNED, THOUGHTFUL AND LOVING INDIVIDUALS. These individuals that come together every week and spend hours preparing, bagging and delivering a LITTLE bag of food overflowing with a LOT OF LOVE! The team all agree we have FUN doing it, it brings us closer together and provides essential nutrition for our kids. During these times, we worry about our kids LOSING or REGRESSING WITH THEIR LEARNING........... I think if our students and community watch my team and what they are doing during this time, any small regression pales in comparison to the MONUMENTAL LIFE LESSON that is an unintentional consequence of my team being what they are .......GREAT PEOPLE! #THEYTHINKWE'REJUSTTEACHING #PROUDSUPERINTENDENT #LOVEMYUNIT3FAMILY #DOINGWHATISRIGHTFORKIDS Mike Gauch https://youtu.be/qEtGj4Ij24M

4-2-2020 Greetings Bulldog Nation, I hope this letter finds you safe and well at this troubling time in America and practicing social distancing. As you know the classroom portion of Drivers Education has been completed by each student which leaves the 6 hour behind the wheel portion, the final section of Drivers Education, to be completed by each student this semester. Unfortunately, this portion has been suspended at this time. The decision was made by the governor’s office due to the social distancing guidelines currently in place to limit the spread of the COVID-19 virus. This is for the safety of all involved the students, teachers and general public. We are looking forward to resuming this portion as soon as the governor’s office and Harrisburg Unit 3 district allows this to happen. For those students who have completed the Driver’s Education class and are waiting to obtain their driver’s license at this time, the Illinois Secretary of State offices and Driver Services facilities are closed until at least April 30th 2020. This means due to the Covid-19virus your student driver will not be able to obtain their drivers license before April 30th 2020. When the facilities re-open please feel free to call or email me. I will make arrangements to get your student their instruction permit application, coop form and any other necessary documents needed for an instruction permit or Driver’s license. I will update you if there are any changes. Thank you for your time and stay safe at this unprecedented time. Sincerely, Richard Dwyer HHS Drivers Education Chair 618-841-3605 rdwyer@harrisburg3.org

Unit 3 Family, We would like to take a moment to clarify some information with the packets and the calendar. The packets that were handed out yesterday and the e-learning will start today, this will take us through spring break and convene the week after spring break. As recommended to HCUSD #3, we are still following our school calendar through the remaining year. Students will not be expected to complete remote learning over spring break. Therefore, this packet or e-learning will extend past spring break and get us to the next packet which will be distributed the week of April 27th. With regard to the April 27 packet, we were advised to plan for remote learning through the rest of the school calendar in case we are not able to get back into school or have in person instruction. This is why as a district we have set April 27th for remote learning to continue. If we receive further communication contradicting this and expect in person instruction to begin on May 1, we will adjust our plans. This is strictly for planning purposes at this time. As always, we will communicate information as soon as we receive it.

Harrisburg Unit 3 Family, This situation that feels more and more like the Twilight Zone continues. I have never been involved in something like this and while we try NOT to seem surprised and to deliver messages in a "matter of fact" kind of manner....this situation is just as much a shock to myself and Unit 3 as it is to all of you. With that said, we are here for you and your children and will continue to try and serve your children as the state directs during this closure. Most of you by now have heard that Governor Pritzker extended school closures through April 30th. This means the earliest we could come back to school is May 1. He also has conveyed to schools that he wants us to continue our attempt to keep children engaged in skill retention activities, review activities and routines so to not regress and lose skills they have developed so far this year. He and the State Board asked us to create a plan for this and it be called a REMOTE LEARNING PLAN. I have attached Harrisburg Unit 3's plan. You will see it is VERY similar to what we already have in place. That is a testament to your child's teachers, administrators and Board who decided to be proactive and try to get out in front of this horrible situation. This plan just formalizes and codified in writing the plan that we have been executing. Please do not get worried that things are changing again, we are aware of the stress this has put on all of you and made the changes here as minimal as possible so you all can keep doing what you are doing with your kiddos. There are really only 3 major changes in the plan from what you are currently doing; First, the Governor has now said moving forward, that any packets or e-learning that a student is provided after March 30 (which includes the packet we passed out yesterday 3-31) should be turned in to be assessed for credit. These packets will be graded on a pass/incomplete scale and NO GRADE WILL BE NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY THIS WORK. The second change is more for safety purposes and is a change Harrisburg Unit 3 has decided to make for your benefit and the benefit of staff. There will be no more face to face meetings to receive or to turn in packets. We have at some buildings the on-line component, which we recommend for ALL who can access. We also have now downloaded each packet on our website, so you can go on and download and print your packet if you wish and have that capability. Finally if you cannot do either of those we ask that you call us on Monday, April 27th and provide your child's school office your name and address and request it be mailed. We ask you to only call on the 27th as the office will be working that day. The final change is on submitting packets. Over the next few days your child's building will be placing a box,tub or some other kind of drop-box outside the front doors of their building. Once you have this packet complete we would ask that you drop it off there and that box will be emptied daily. We also request that you contact your child's teacher so they know to look for the packet and to note that it was submitted for credit. I have attached the plan, I know there will be MANY questions....please do not hesitate to call my office and I will try and answer any concerns you have. THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR YOUR COOPERATION AND UNDERSTANDING IN THIS MATTER. Like I have said before we will get through this TOGETHER. Thanks Mike Unit 3 Remote Learning Plan: https://5il.co/ehgl

Dear Parents and Students:   We want to reach out and clarify some items.  The packets that were given out on March 16th do NOT need to be turned in.  These were considered Act of God days through ISBE. Since that time-frame, we have transitioned to remote learning and the packets (either electronic or hard packet) that you will get on Tuesday, March 31st will need to be turned in the next time we distribute packets (TBD).  These packets will be given a pass/incomplete designation, not designated letter grades.   At Harrisburg High School, while we encourage you to use online resources during this time, if you do not have internet/online access, we will have packets for you to pick-up on Tuesday, March 31st between 9 AM - 12 PM and 3 PM - 6 PM.  Students/parents picking up packets will only be able to enter the hallway lobby a few at a time and will need to leave the school grounds once they have the material. We will also make the packets available for download on our website and app. We will be posting them in the next day or two. Please watch for an announcement indicating it is available for download. Stay safe and healthy. We miss the students walking in our hallways. Mr. Dewar and Mr. Crabb.

HARRISBURG COMMUNITY - UPDATE ON FACILITIES - I received a phone call from a citizen this morning who told me that he lives by Taylor Field and was very angry that there were people still walking on the track and using the facility. The Governor did ask that all school run facilities shut down, but the district did not feel the need to stop people from walking on the track as long as the people were practicing social distancing. With that said, I regret to inform you that we will not allow any admittance to any of our facilities until further notice. I know many of you walk on the track daily , as have I. I also know that as adults you would adhere to the social distancing aspect as requested. However, when people decide that it is their job to police our property and make those calls and allegations against the district, we feel it is prudent for us to go ahead and just lock the facility and comply with the directive from Springfield. I apologize that this has forced the district to close all of those gates and areas that we know the community use for daily exercise and activities that the Governor has encouraged people to do as long as they practice the Social Distancing request, but districts across the state were indeed asked to lock their facilities, so that is what we will do. I promise you all that the minute the Governor allows us to open our doors, we will make these facilities available for all of you again. The district, Board, Administration and staff believe that the school district should be a community facility used by all members of our community. Sadly, not all people feel that way, as evident by the phone call I had today. On behalf of the district, I want to apologize for the inconvenience and hopefully it will not last much longer. Thank you and please stay safe. Mike Gauch

Harrisburg Community, I am very happy we were able to pass out 8,000 meals today for our students to have food for the week. Each bag contained 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches of the week. We are hopeful that this service is reaching as many of our children as possible. I regret to say that we did however, run out of meals very quickly today and we realize some people were not able to get the meals. That was not our intention and we hate that we have to turn people away, however, we can only do so much to keep this service going for all of our community. We would like to make the following pleas to all of you moving forward to help us maximize the amount of children and community members we can serve with this program. 1. Please only take or go get meals from one of the many sites we have available for pick up. We are doing all of this program on the honor system. We give anyone that walks up a meal if we have it, we do not ask, nor will we, but please allow everyone to get an opportunity to get some meals. 2. Please only request the amount of bags that will help you supplement what you need to make it through the week for your children. 3. We are trying to feed as many of our students as possible. Please help us by only taking what you absolutely need. 4. We apologize in advance....when we run out of meals....we are OUT. We are being limited in our ordering currently and will do as many meals or bags as we can, but when they are gone there is nothing we can do. The district is doing the very best they can in a very difficult situation and when that limit is reached we will be unable to accommodate anything until the next round of service. We THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR UNDERSTANDING AND COOPERATION THROUGH THIS DIFFICULT TIME. Harrisburg Unit # 3 will continue to do everything we can to assist our students and families through this situation. Thank You, Mike Gauch

Message regarding food service. Harrisburg Community, We are very happy that the Governor is going to allow Harrisburg Unit # 3 to continue to provide our Meal Plan for the community. The district WILL continue this vital service for our students and our community. While this service will continue, we will be making some changes to the program and wanted to update you all on what those changes will be and how they will impact you. All pick up sites for meals will not change, the sites that we currently are operating as mobile sites will be the same. There are 3 changes for the program, those changes will start Monday, March 23rd. 1. We have decided to have pick up of meals only on Monday. When you come to the site, you will be provided a bag that contains 5 breakfast meals and 5 lunch meals for the week. It is essential that you show up on Monday as that will be the ONLY day we have these deliveries each week. 2. Robinson Transport (our district transportation provider) has graciously offered to assist by bringing the meals to each of our sites in one of their big yellow busses. We appreciate them and their willingness to assist us in this service. 3. Finally, with the amount of items, bags and meals that we are putting together we are going to be unable to honor allergy requests. PLEASE make sure you check your child's bag for any product that may be an allergy concern and either give it away or discard the item. BUT PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD'S ITEMS!!!! I have attached a copy of the delivery sites as a reminder. We look forward to getting these meals out to you Monday and every Monday as long as this closure is in place. Thank you and stay safe! Update from Mike Gauch Harrisburg Unit # 3 Superintendent Harrisburg Community, I wanted to provide an update regarding our district and the Health scare that is dominating our lives currently. The Governor announced today that as of 5 p.m. Saturday, March 21st thru Tuesday, April 7th that Illinois will be under a “STAY HOME ORDER”. He also announced that our schools would remain closed until at least April 8th and they will re-evaluate the situation at that time. We will provide you information regarding what the district is going to do in regards to our e- learning program as well as packets for those of you with NO internet access. We provided a 2 week packet which will get us through March 27th. I will meet with my administrative staff over the weekend and consult with our teaching staff and provide updates through next week (March 23rdthru March 27th). The Governor is allowing us to continue to provide our food service to the community due to the fact we are providing “ESSENTIAL SERVICE” to our community. The district WILL continue this service to our families with some minor changes. I will be placing announcements out this weekend on our District APP, all social media sites and through our all call system to discuss these minor changes as we move forward in this situation. Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation in this matter and we will continue to provide updates as they evolve. Thank You Mike

3-19-2020 Harrisburg Unit # 3 Family THE FOLLOWING ANNOUNCEMENT WILL NOT IMPACT OUR MEALS PROGRAM AT THIS TIME......... MEALS WILL STILL BE DELIVERED AS NORMAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In an effort to adhere to the "social distancing" recommendation by the Centers for Disease Control, Unit # 3 will no longer accept foot traffic through the day in their building offices or the Unit Office. There will be staff there to conduct business remotely by phone and/or email each day.We will attempt to answer your questions or find a solution for any issue you have remotely. Should you need paperwork or other items we will work with you to schedule a pick up at one of our locations. Again, we will still be here to handle business, but will have doors locked and will not allow entry to any of the buildings until further notice. Please understand this is a decision that will cause some delays in resolving issues, but we will do our best to provide you the service you need. Call your child's building first and if you cannot reach anyone there please call the Unit Office and we will do our best to assist you. Thank you, Mike Gauch

Parents/Guardians/Students Harrisburg Community - Harrisburg Unit # 3 schools will have someone in offices at each building and the Unit office to assist you with concerns or questions throughout this closure. In an attempt to limit the opportunity for the transmission of any health related problems, we ask that you first call the district and attempt to conduct any business you may have by phone. We will do everything in our power to be able to address your concerns on that call. Should you be in need of a form, paper or any other document we can take that information on the phone and use email to transmit to IF POSSIBLE. This will avoid you having to travel outside your home for something we can take care of on the phone or by email. Should we not be able to handle the issue by phone, we would ask you to come in so we could get you any information or documents you need for you or your child. Please refer to the Meal Plan Document as we start serving meals today in several locations noted on that document. My staff and I are very appreciative and humbled by the outpouring of support from our families and community members. This is a very stressful time for everyone and to have the kind words we heard throughout the day yesterday was why Harrisburg is HOME! We truly care for your children as well and want them back in our buildings as soon as it is deemed to be the safest solution for them. Thank you again for your cooperation and we will continue to update you as this situation evolves. Thank you, Mike Gauch Superintendent

Finally. the State will be providing a webinar with further guidance for the closure on Tuesday afternoon and my entire administrative team has signed up to be a part of that. We will be in the unit office to all listen together and try and improve our plan or gain clarification from the state as we move forward. This situation is still changing hourly and I will keep you all informed as information comes in that we believe is important to convey.
